Studies in Mycenaean Inscriptions and Dialect (SMID) is an analytical bibliography of Mycenaean text studies, including short summaries of scholarly works, cross-references of reviews, and indices of Linear B and Linear A signs, words and texts, as well as a fully cross-referenced subject index.

SMID is published annually by the Program in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory (PASP).

Welcome to the online version of Studies in Mycenaean Inscriptions and Dialect (SMID). PASP director Tom Palaima initiated the revival of SMID at the University of Texas, and published the first edition (for the year 1979) in 1995. The database and print format were set up by Elizabeth Sikkenga, the new series' 1st editor & project director.
At this website you can search the volumes of SMID that have been published by PASP. This currently includes volumes for the 13 years: 1979-1985, and 1994-1999. We will update the databases as new volumes are published.

For information on the print version of SMID, please consult the SMID website.

The indices allow for search by Author, Title, Citation, or keyword. The keywords are the same as in the print version of SMID. These include Linear A or B ideogram, sign, tablet, or word. You can also perform a Subject search.

We are currently hosting these databases using Filemaker's Instant Web Publishing engine. Accordingly, you must use the controls in the status area on the left-hand side of the screen. We will again be implementing a customized search in the near future.
